INFRASTRUCTURE
SET-UP
Bird’s eye-view of economy of a place can be had from the available
infrastructure. Since the infrastructure set-up of the district is not 
properly developed, measures are being taken for the development of
various sectors of basic amenities viz Transportation, Public Health, Education,
Power Development, Medical facilities, Roads etc.
POWER
DEVELOPMENT
District Pulwama is having no Hydel Power Generating Project. Electricity generated in other districts of the State is consumed here. All the villages are almost electrified except some pockets. However, two Gas Turbine Plants established at Pampore
With
a total capacity of 175.00 (MW) are
existing in the district.

Though all the villages are electrified yet the power supply is not as
per its requirements especially during the winter season. The need is felt to
generate the electricity as per its requirement in the district. The erratic
power supply have curtailed the Industrial Development in the district. The
erratic and short power supply is the root cause of Industrial backwardness in
the district. No doubt diesel
generator sets are used as an alternative source but same can not be an
alternative source of energy in view of its high costs.
COMMUNICATION
Development in modern times is directly proportionate to communication
facilities. The district is well knit with
pacca/Kacha roads which connect the different corners of the district with main
Town and other parts of the Valley / State Head Quarters. Surface transport viz
Buses, Trucks, Matadors, Taxies etc. are being utilized for transportation of
goods and services in the district /State.

POST
AND TELEGRAPH
The present set-up of Post and Telegraph is not adequate as there are
only 109 sub branch post Offices working in the district. They do not cater the
need of the people. For speedy growth of industrialization this sector needs
prior attention of the Authorities . there are 2352 telephone connections
installed till end of March 1999.

BANKING
FACILITIES
All the six blocks of the district are availing Bank facilities. There
are 38 scheduled commercial Banks working in the district as per the records for
the year 1998-99. The year-wise deposits/ advances made during the period

As per the Census of 1981,
the literacy %age was 20.47 i.e. 30.56 for men and 9.21 in women. As regards
Rural Population the literacy level was very low as compared to the Urban
sector. Presently the level of education is very high as compared
to the Census of 1981. There are three colleges for General Education, seventy five High/ Higher Secondary Institutions,
one hundred sixty one Middle and six hundred two Primary schools
