DDC Pulwama calls for geo-tagging, restoration of springs under Jal Shakti Abiyan

District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pulwama Dr Syed Abid Rashid today convened a meeting regarding the implementation of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, a water conservation campaign initiated by Union Ministry of Jal Shakti here at DC office Complex Pulwama.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Development, Chief education Officer, Principals of Degree colleges, AD Planning, Exen PHE and Groundwater management, Chief Agriculture Officer, District Horticulture Officer and other senior officers of the concerned department.

The DDC said that the aim of the administration is to provide drinking water to every household on priority and in a sustainable manner. He added that the aim of JSA should bring positive change in people for water conservation.

The DDC also invited ideas, traditional knowledge, initiatives undertaken, success stories, and films made on water conservation from common citizens, celebrities and NGO’s. He also invited the media to actively participate in the efforts.

The DDC stressed upon the line departments to adopt best practices in water conservation and rainwater harvest, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, watershed development and intensive afforestation.

The DDC directed CEO and principals of the Degree colleges that a large scale communication campaign should also be planned involving mass mobilization of different groups including school students, college students, self-help groups PRI institutions, youth groups and others.
