DDC Pulwama inaugurates sports event under Khelo India at DPL Pulwama

PULWAMA, DECEMBER 31: District Development Commissioner, Pulwama, Dr Raghav Langer todayinaugurated  inter block district level competition of sports event as a part of centre’s KHELO INDIA initiative “Sports for Peace and Development” organised by Department of Youth services and Sports at District Police Lines Pulwama.

District Youth Services and Sports officer, Dy SP Dar, Dy SP Operations ,officials of District  Youth Services and Sports , other concerned officials and large number of students were present on the occasion..

  The sports event  will  witness  competitions  in Kho Kho, Tug of War, Kabbadi, volley ball, football cricket and tennis etc. In which 32 teams belonging to different blocks of the district are participating.

Speaking on the occasion DDC welcomed the youth for participating in the event  and said that “Khelo India Scheme” has been launched with an objective to involve youth in sporting activities  to channelize their energy in the right direction  so that they can imbibe leadership qualities, team sprit, discipline and social cohesion among them. He said administration is  closely monitoring the ongoing developmental works on various stadiums to give impetus to the sports activities in the district. He added such events will be organised in future also so that the youth can prove their mettle in sports at national level. He further said that a Gym centre will be established in the District to improve flexibility, posture and  strength among youth.

On the occasion, District Youth Services and Sports officer apprised the DDC about various issues faced by the Department.

Dr Raghav assured  that the issues pertaining to conduct of sports activities will be resolved on priority basis.

Later, DDC distributed sporting kits among the participating teams.
