DDC Pulwama visits Spice Park Pampore

Pampore to be a Heritage Town :DDC  Pulwama.

Pulwama 15 Oct 2019: District Development Commissioner, Pulwama  Dr Raghav  Langar today visited the Spice Park at Dussu, Pampore and reviewed the Initiatives taken  for economic revival of J&K Saffron under  National Mission on Saffron.

On the occasion, the DDC was apprised about the progress achieved under the  National Mission on Saffron  which was introduced during 2010-11 at an estimated cost of Rs 400 crores . It was also intimated that under the mission 3715 hectares of saffron was proposed to be rejuvenated under the mission.

DDC also inspected the various sections and installed machinery at  stigma separation unit, Quality evaluation laboratory, packing unit, drying unit and cold storage room.

Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that Pampore should be known as Saffron Heritage Town  and the spice park in Dussoo Pampore would further the cause in transforming the Pampore into an Saffron Agricultural Heritage industry. He added that pampore and the adjoining areas have tremendous potential to export world class quality saffron .He said theat the revival of saffron industry would augment the employment opportunities in the valley. He stressed upon the officers of Agricultural department to adopt novel methods in rejunevation of saffron crop.

Later on, DDC also visited saffron fields and took stock of the sprinkle irrigation system and functioning of borewells.

Among others Additional Deputy Commissioner Awantipora Mohd Ashraf Hakak , Chief agriculture Officer and other concerned were present on the occasion.
